Glossary
Compression ratio
- Modern transmission technology allows phone companies
to transmit more than one telephone call over the same
transmission line. The difference in quality is generally
unnoticeable as long as more than 4 calls are not on
the same line at the same time (a compression ratio
of 4 to 1).
Direct provider - A company
that installs its own phone lines, like BT or Cable
& Wireless.
Indirect provider - A company
that re-routes your phone service over another network.
